Data Acquisition - Magnetic
Acquiring Your Data
Using the survey parameters you defined in the previous exercise you should now generate field observations for interpretation. Fill in the specified parameters in the form that you download below, and a data set will be generated for you. All parameters must be specified in standard survey coordinates.
Line Spacing: Indicates the distance between magnetic profile lines. The profile lines run east-west, so this distance specifies the north-south density of the observation points. No matter what is specified here, one survey line will be generated at y=0. Other survey lines will then be generated filling the 500 meter-wide survey area at the requested spacing.
Station Spacing: This specifies the spacing of magnetic observation points within each line. Therefore, this distance gives the east-west density of observations.
Measurements per Station: Number of magnetic readings taken at each station. Reported magnetic field strength will represent the average of the readings taken at each station. Multiple readings per station can be used to reduce the level of random noise associated with each measurment. The time required to complete the survey and the associated cost, however, increase as the number of readings increases.
X-Coordinate of Base Station Location: Indicates the x position of your magnetic base station.
Y-Coordinate of Base Station Location: Indicates the y position of your magnetic base station.
