Gravity Anomaly Modeling - Slab
This JavaScript program allows the user to display a gravity dataset, then vary geological parameters in order to model the dimensions and physical properties of a possible slab of more or less dense material that may have produced the anomaly observed in the data.
You can vary the depth and x-coordinate of the cylinder, its radius, and the density contrast between the surrounding earth and the cylinder. If the data are biased above the y = 0 axis, use the bias control to shift the theoretical curve up or down. The position of the cylinder is changed by dragging the cylinder slider. All other parameters are changed via the slider bars and arrow controls in the left panel. Click here for test data.
